Discover Ecomaison

As a government-approved eco-organization, our mission is to organize the collection, sorting, repair, reuse and recycling of household products and materials: furniture, bedding, decorative textiles, building products and materials, DIY and garden items, toys.

What is an eco-organization?

An eco-organization is a private, not-for-profit company set up by a group of companies to meet their regulatory obligations in terms of reuse and recycling of the products they put on the market. These obligations stem from the principle of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), now governed by the French anti-waste law for a circular economy (AGEC).
An eco-organization carries out a mission of general interest, within the framework of an approval issued by the State, which notably sets precise collection, reuse and recycling targets in its specifications.

At Ecomaison, we go beyond regulatory compliance by offering our members solutions and services to help them become players in the circular economy.

Ecomaison, approved for 4 product lines

Our model works thanks to eco-participation

Eco-participation is the part paid by everyone when they buy a new product. We collect this money from our member companies and use it to set up services and solutions for everyone - individuals and professionals alike - so that used products can be easily collected, sorted, donated, repaired, reused or recycled.

Working together towards zero waste

Ecomaison's mission is - through innovation, reuse, repair and recycling - to reduce the environmental impact of household objects and materials: furniture, bedding, toys, DIY and garden items, and building products and materials. Even worn, broken or out-of-use, they still have value and deserve better than to end up as mere waste.

WhenEcomaison was foundedin 2011, more than half of all end-of-life furniture was landfilled. Today, 97% of the products handled by Ecomaison are recovered through reuse, recycling or energy recovery.

Ecomaison governance

Ecomaison consists of a Board of Directors. It determines the eco-organization's strategic roadmap to meet the objectives set by the French government, within a defined budgetary framework. The Ecomaison Management Committee is responsible for implementing the means and resources needed to achieve these objectives.

A shared body for the 4 sectors

Ecomaison's Board of Directors is made up of companies representing the 4 sectors for which it is accredited. In this way, it ensures equitable representation between the Extended Producer Responsibility(EPR) channels:

  • 12 directors for the furniture sector,
  • 6 directors for the building products and materials sector (category 2),
  • 1 director for the DIY and garden products sector,
  • 1 director for the toy industry.

Each sector is steered by a sector committee, to deal more specifically with the issues and challenges specific to each one.

Alexandre Falck was elected Chairman of the Board of Ecomaison in June 2023. He is Chairman and CEO of BUT. Between 2012 and 2015, he headed the Brico Dépôt, then Bricomarché and Bricorama banners, as Managing Director of Les Mousquetaires.

His professional background gives him a good knowledge of the players strongly represented at Ecomaison, and in-depth expertise in the regulatory and operational challenges of the furniture, DIY, garden and building recycling sectors.

Alexandre Falck

"In 2022, Ecomaison has changed dimension with a scope of activity that has expanded from furniture to DIY and garden items, toys and building products. The integration of new sectors is forcing us to transform ourselves. It's a fantastic opportunity to gain in efficiency, which will enable Ecomaison to better face its new challenges and the competition."
