As of January 1, 2022, the French Anti-Waste for a Circular Economy Act (AGEC) will bring about major changes for Eco-mobilier members, manufacturers and distributors of furniture, furnishings and decorative items. To keep them informed, Eco-mobilier organizes weekly webinars to explain the new regulatory stakes and pass on all the necessary information, particularly concerning the return of used products to stores and the new sorting instructions for products.

Paris, September 29, 2021 - Eco-mobilier is the eco-organization approved by the public authorities to manage the collection, sorting, recycling and energy recovery of all used furniture, furnishings and fixtures, as well as to promote their reuse. To date, Eco-mobilier has collected over 3 million tonnes of used furniture, 95% of which is recycled, and is aiming for ZERO waste for furniture by 2023.

Implementation of the French Anti-Waste for a Circular Economy Act (AGEC)

The Anti-Waste for a Circular Economy Act (AGEC) aims to reduce waste and develop solidarity-based donation and reuse. Certain measures will apply from January 1, 2022, such as the mandatory take-back of used furniture from customers, the evolution of the Triman logo on products and the obligation to display the unique identification number.

Eco-mobilier supports furniture manufacturers and helps them to comply with these new legal obligations by organizing thematic webinars on the new regulatory challenges. During these free information sessions, held every Friday, participants can ask any questions they may have.

Mandatory take-back of used furniture by retailers

Several online conferences will present one of the key measures of this law: the compulsory take-back of used products by retailers. From January 1, 2022, customers will be able to dispose of their used furniture free of charge at furniture sales outlets or on delivery.

This service will be offered by stores of over 200 m2 or during deliveries, when similar goods are purchased. Stores with a sales area in excess of 1,000 m2 will offer a free trade-in service.

This also applies to e-commerce: retailers and Internet vendors with annual sales of more than 100,000 euros in furnishings will be required to offer free take-back of equivalent used products. Before the sale is concluded, all retailers and Internet sites will be required to inform their customers of the conditions for taking back used furniture, either in-store, on delivery or at a local collection point.

Concrete take-back solutions include:
- Associations to which used or unsold products can be donated;
- Access to drop-off points for professionals, for recycling or
.

Better consumer information with the Triman logo

Also to encourage re-use and recycling, the law provides for better consumer information.

On January 1, 2022, the single logo (Triman) affixed to all products subject to ecoparticipation will be supplemented by sorting instructions. It must be visible on products, packaging and instructions. The aim is to inform consumers about the right thing to do at the end of a product's life.

"Companies in the furniture sector can count on Eco-mobilier to keep them informed of legislative developments and provide them with services and solutions to facilitate their compliance," explains Eric WEISMAN-MOREL, Eco-mobilier's Development Director.
