Furniture recycling: New contract, new services to achieve ZERO waste

To support the growth in used furniture collection and achieve the ZERO waste target by 2023, Eco-mobilier is changing its rates and offering under a new service contract for 2020. From now on, the calculation of the eco-participation fee will be adjusted according to the recyclability of materials.
To accompany this development, Eco-mobilier is also offering innovative services, whether to encourage the incorporation of recycled raw materials in the manufacture of furniture, or to support the
take-back of unsold goods. All these services also aim to reward companies committed to the circular economy.

Paris, May 27, 2019 - For the past 6 years, Eco-mobilier has been working to provide sustainable solutions and limit the environmental impact of furniture and furnishing items. The ecoparticipation fee, paid by consumers to Eco-mobilier, finances the collection and recycling of used furniture throughout France. From around 700,000 tonnes collected in 2018 to almost one million tonnes in 2020/2021, eco-participation rates must evolve to keep pace with this increase in recycling.

An eco-tax to encourage product recyclability

The eco-participation fee helps finance the collection and recycling of used furniture, furnishing and DIY products
throughout France.
Eco-participation fee increases vary according to the recyclability of products. For example,
for furniture and furnishing elements, products made of wood and wood derivatives
, which are more easily recyclable, will have a lower rate than products based
on more complex and less recyclable materials, such as composite or inert materials.
To facilitate the implementation of these new rates, Eco-mobilier provides
companies with a product code generator to facilitate the calculation of the new rates, and a
automatic recoder of product code files.

Mandatory notices and displays for January 2020

Manufacturers and distributors are now required to obtain a registration number from the Registre national des metteurs sur le marché, provided by Ecomobilier. This registration number must be indicated on general sales conditions and invoices.
To inform consumers that the product is subject to a sorting deposit, manufacturers and distributors must use the Triman sign.

New services to promote the circular economy

In order to support manufacturers and distributors in their eco-responsible approach, Ecomobilier offers them new services entitling them to ecoparticipation credits.

  • Benefit from recycling credits by incorporating recycled raw materials

    partner associations.
  • The re-use partnership, to give a second life to unsold furniture
Eco-mobilier offers all players, distributors and manufacturers the opportunity to donate unsold furniture that they
