From November 20, 2023 to January 22, 2024, Ecomaison and the Académie de Versailles organized the second edition of their Collecte Solidaire de Jouets in the Académie's primary and elementary schools, with, for the first time, the participation of nursery schools.
In all, almost 40,000 pupils were involved, and 11 tonnes of toys and games were collected for re-use or recycling: a great success.
Collecte Solidaire de Jouets: I give them, I save them!
It's no secret that education plays a vital role in raising awareness of sustainable development issues among future generations.
The Académie de Versailles and Ecomaison have therefore renewed their Collecte Solidaire de jouets (toy solidarity drive ) for this target group. Structured around a major educational component, this operation enables them to discover the values of commitment, solidarity and eco-citizenship. For two months, around Christmas time, 187 schools in the Yvelines, Val d'Oise, Hauts-de-Seine and Essonne regions offered their pupils the chance to hand in their old toys and games and give them a new lease of life. The timing of the collection, around Christmas time, proved to be very appropriate, with 73% of the schools surveyed judging it to be "at the right time" in the year.
In the end, 53% of the toys collected were able to be reused and make other children happy:

This reuse is made possible by Ecomaison's local partners: 17 players in the social economy, who have collected toys in a condition that allows them to be donated or resold at fair prices.
On the strength of these results, Ecomaison's ambition for the end of the year is to offer the scheme to new academies, in order to build on this success and duplicate the operation throughout France.
Two months of collection, years of commitment
The collection may be over, but one thing is certain: its impact will endure. That's the aim of the work carried out by Ecomaison, and also by theAcadémie de Versailles, which has provided teachers with the tools they need, and once again this year, has given them a teaching booklet complete with a document presenting examples of practical implementations carried out during the previous edition (for example, working on written production by writing a letter to thank one's favorite cuddly toy, or oral language by setting up an argumented debate on "Are you for or against giving a second-hand toy?"). The response has been very positive, with 91% of schools wishing to repeat the experience.

What's more, more than half of all establishments would like to apply for the E3D label (Établissement en Démarche de Développement Durable). This involves putting in place concrete solutions: educational projects, management of the establishment in terms of energy, water, waste, and so on.
Successful awareness campaign
Through this collection, Ecomaison and the Académie de Versailles are taking action to raise awareness among students, their families and teachers of all the issues linked to waste and second life, and to promote the work carried out by those involved in solidarity-based reuse.
