To transform plastics from household objects into a sustainable resource that can compete with virgin plastics, Ecomaison is simultaneously launching a call for tenders and a call for innovation projects. Objective: to identify players and support innovative technological solutions capable of improving the sorting, regeneration and incorporation of recycled plastics into new production processes.
With the extension of its activities to include household objects and materials (toys, DIY and garden items, building materials, furniture, bedding and decorative textiles), plastics represent a growing challenge for Ecomaison.
Until now, the furniture sector has only collected 5,000 tonnes of plastic, mainly polypropylene from garden furniture. However, with the expansion of the new channels supported by Ecomaison, the volumes of plastic collected will gradually increase, and could even quadruple in the coming years. This growth already includes a wide variety of products, such as flower pots, garden slides, water skimmers and plastic figurines. In all, over fifteen different plastic resins are involved in the collection of used plastic products.
The challenge? To sort and process plastics of very heterogeneous nature, shape and composition into a high-quality secondary raw material that can be reused by manufacturers. To achieve this, Ecomaison has set itself the goal of supporting the
development of the French industrial fabric, which must adapt to the growing importance of the plastics sector, with infrastructures capable of efficiently processing these flows and producing high-quality recycled materials for industry.
"Ecomaison has been a catalyst for innovation since its creation. Faced with the growing volumes of plastics collected, we are taking the lead in structuring a high-performance industry and encouraging the use of recycled plastics as a sustainable alternative to virgin materials."
Dominique Mignon, President of Ecomaison.
National mobilization to structure the industry
Ecomaison is launching a call for tenders for operators and a call for innovation projects to identify :
- Sort plastics into resin types that can be used by manufacturers.
- Integrate advanced technologies such as optical sorting on crushed resin,
triboelectricity or flotation to improve the performance of existing
plants. - Develop regeneration processes to transform these resins into
high-quality secondary raw materials for industrial use. - Encourage manufacturers to userecycled
plastic from Ecomaison's collection sites in their manufacturing processes.
To support these transformations, Ecomaison is committed to several levers:
- Financial support for operator investments.
- Technological support to identify and deploy high-performance
solutions. - Payment of premiums to its members for the incorporation of recycled materials
to encourage the use of recycled plastics in industrial production,
a scheme already in place since 2021.
Applications will be open from March 17, 2025 for 2 months.
