La Grande Collecte Solidaire des Jouets

Faced with the alarming fact that three out of ten1 French people still throw away their unused toys when they could be used again, this major annual event promotes solidarity donation as a responsible solution. And to facilitate this gesture, an exceptional network of 2,500 collection points will be set up throughout France throughout November.

2,500 drop-off locations

To enable every French person to take part in the operation, Ecomaison has mobilized all players in the industry - manufacturers, distributors, local authorities and associations - to set up an unprecedented event at 2,500 collection sites.

" La Grande Collecte Solidaire des Jouets" aims to become a key event in favor of toy collection and reuse, naturally integrating local operations such as "Laisse Parler Ton Cœur", initiated 15 years ago by the ecosystem eco-organization and which has already enabled 22,000 hoods of toys to be taken in charge.

By 2025, the following will be taking part in this scheme:

  • 750 specialist toy stores and banners
  • 270 food stores and banners
  • 720 associations involved in reuse
  • 700 sites deployed in partnership with 60 local authorities, alongside the ecosystem ecoorganization

All toys in good condition, damaged or incomplete, including :

  • Outdoor games (playhouse, draisienne, beach games, etc.)
  • Indoor play equipment (dolls, figurines, plush toys, building sets)
  • Board games (models, puzzles, card games, etc.)
  • Electrical and electronic toys (battery- or mains-powered)
  • Gift sets (toys distributed free of charge as part of the sale of another
    product (a child's meal, a magazine, etc.).

The fate of toys: priority to reuse

At the end of November, all toys deposited by private individuals will be collected by one of the 500 partner associations. The toys will be sorted, cleaned and reconditioned in reuse workshops, providing work for hundreds of people on social integration schemes, before being offered to beneficiaries or resold at fair prices.

Nearly half1 of French people buy second-hand when it comes to games and toys, and 6 times out of 101, during the festive season.

The ecological, economic and solidarity-based dimensions are therefore fully reflected in this event, which aims to double the volume of toys taken in.

Toys that cannot be repaired or reconditioned will be cleaned and recycled by Ecomaison, and by ecosystem in the case of electrical and electronic toys. The two organizations have been working together for several years to build a common system that is simple and easy to use for all French people.

110 million toys taken care of by 2024

The collection, reuse and recycling network managed by the eco-organization Ecomaison, created just three years ago with the commitment of the sector's manufacturers and distributors, has gradually proved its worth, taking in 38,000 tonnes of toys by 2024, the equivalent of 110 million toys.

Supported by toy and game manufacturers and distributors, the Ecomaison network offers private individuals more than 5,000 collection points throughout France and its overseas territories, provides daily support for those involved in reuse and structures the recycling of materials used in toys and games.

What's more, the circular economy initiatives launched by manufacturers are also one of the cornerstones of the industry. Through improved recyclability, the availability of spare parts and the incorporation of recycled materials into new products, the extended lifespan of toys and games is already a reality, which must continue to develop if it is to become widespread.

"Our priority is to federate initiatives and bring together all players in the toy industry. With this in mind, we have conceived this nationwide operation, which aims to amplify solidarity donations, generate business for reuse structures, and involve manufacturers and distributors in this virtuous approach. Our objective is simple: to support the French so that no more toys or games are thrown away.
