Since the introduction of the PMCB EPR (extended producer responsibility for building products and materials), Ecominéro, the eco-organization created by and for the mineral sector, in charge of setting up the recycling channel for inert building waste (category 1)* and Ecomaison, an eco-organization for non-inert building waste (category 2)*, both approved by the French government, offer manufacturers and distributors of building materials a comprehensive package to meet their obligations as marketers. Today, the two eco-organizations are going one step further and launching a joint call for projects to support actions to reuse and give a second life to PMCB on building sites.
Reuse and repurposing: a priority to achieve an ambitious goal
Reuse is the operation by which used materials or products are used again, and in the case of re-employment, they are re-used for a purpose identical to that for which they were designed. ADEME estimates that less than 1% of construction products and materials were reused in 2021.
To help scale up these practices, Ecominéro and Ecomaison have set a target of 5% of products and materials reused by 2028.
Indeed, reuse activities contribute to extending product lifetimes, and are part of a circular economy.
Working together to support sustainable and circular construction
Supporting worksites in their reuse ambitions
On construction sites, cooperation between project owners, project managers, construction companies and reuse specialists promotes circular economy loops. This call for projects reflects the desire of the two eco-organizations to provide logistical, technical and financial support for careful dismantling operations and the use of building products and materials derived from reuse or re-utilization, across all building and finishing materials.
The aim of this call for projects is to experiment, make reliable and disseminate new reuse practices, connect construction sites with each other and help create local reuse channels.
"For Ecominéro, this joint call for projects further highlights our ambition to develop reuse. This year, we have launched 4 calls for projects to support and finance worksites and professionals in the sector. We are proud of this joint initiative, with Ecomaison, to offer
a new opportunity for companies", explains François Demeure Dit Latte, Managing Director of Ecominéro.
"Ecomaison is strongly committed to the development of local supply chains, and would like to take advantage of this call for projects to raise awareness and encourage the donation of deconstructed building products and materials to players in the local, social and solidarity economy," explains Denis Blanchard, Head of the Building sector at Ecomaison.
An ambitious call for projects open to all players
Applicants for this call for projects may be project owners (MOA) or prime contractors (MOE), reuse project management assistants (AMOA), reuse project management assistants (AMOE), or construction companies, whether public or private and regardless of their legal status. All sites or operations involving deconstruction, rehabilitation, renovation or new construction where the applicant intends to reuse and/or source significant quantities of category 1 and/or 2 PMCB are eligible.
Around twenty projects will be supported in 2024, for amounts ranging from €5,000 to €50,000. The deadline for applications is September 15, 2024.
All the information you need to apply is available online, directly on the Écominéro website.
Two dedicated webinars will be held on Friday, July 5 from 10 to 11 am and Thursday, August 29 from 10 to 11 am. To register, please follow this link
