Objective: facilitate sorting to achieve ZERO waste

Paris, July 7, 2020 - With Maison du tri, Eco-mobilier will now be speaking directly to the French when they sort, store, donate and recycle their objects. Why Maison du tri? Firstly, to make life easier for the French, and to take them further in the right sorting of objects and household furnishings. Secondly, to provide a benchmark that guarantees the recycling and reuse of discarded objects. And finally, to support the voluntary commitments and initiatives of Eco-mobilier's member retailers and manufacturers, as well as its partners in local authorities and social economy associations.

" Why Maison du Tri? Because the ecological gesture, for all our objects, starts at home", explains Dominique Mignon, President of Eco-mobilier.

The evolution of Eco-mobilier's collection solutions

Eco-mobilier has been collecting and recycling furniture and household items (furniture, bedding, comforters and pillows), since 2013. Together with French furniture retailers and manufacturers, collection partners (local authorities and associations) and recycling manufacturers, nearly one million tonnes of furniture are collected every year, and 95% of it is reused or recycled. All thanks to the eco-participation fee paid by the French when purchasing new furniture. To take sorting even further, and achieve ZERO waste, Ecomobilier will be developing its collection solutions and advice for private individuals and professionals, with Maison du tri, its new dedicated program.

The Maison du Tri experiment

A new local collection program will be tested for 6 months, starting this autumn, in 5 departments in mainland France: Charente-Maritime, Gironde, Ille-et-Vilaine, Meurthe-et-Moselle and Nord. To this end, Eco-mobilier is looking for new partners among its member retailers, shopping center managers, convenience stores and local associations, to set up new Maison du tri local collection points. A call for tenders has also been launched to select new Maison du tri logistics service providers, dedicated to urban and local collection.
