Second life for board games

The darling of rainy days and a source of good times with friends and family, board games are always in vogue. France is particularly fond of them: an average of 30 million boxes are sold every year, according to the Union des éditeurs de jeux de société (UEJ)! But what to do with the games you no longer want? The good news is that there are solutions for collecting, reusing or recycling your favorite board games.

First step: don't throw away, give away!

Your child doesn't play with them anymore, the box is damaged, you've lost some pieces... a new life is possible for unwanted board games. Simply drop them off at the most convenient collection point for you:

  • An Ecomaison terminal installed in a toy store or supermarket;
  • Directly in association ;
  • At a recycling center.

Any board game, even if damaged or incomplete, can be dropped off at a collection point for re-use.

Occasional collections are also organized. This year, for example, Ecomaison has renewed its operation in primary and elementary schools in the Académie de Versailles.

Behind the scenes of board game re-use

The Yoti association, which specializes in the reuse of toys and games, has given new life to some 7.7 tonnes of toys and games (source: Yoti) since October 2023. Its workshop for sorting and refurbishing games and toys, a veritable integration project, is located in the Bois d'Arcy prison. This structure fights against waste while promoting the professional reintegration of the inmates it trains and employs. The toys are then resold on the Yoti website.

Our operators carry out a precise inventory of the set on arrival in the workshop. If the game is complete, it is cleaned and repaired if necessary. It is then checked before being inventoried and sent to the photo department to be put back on sale on our website. If the set arrives incomplete, the various parts are sorted, cleaned and repaired to join our stock of spare parts. We sometimes manage to reconstitute a complete game by reuniting pieces from several boxes. Monopoly and its various editions top the list of games we recycle the most.
